Meet the panelists
Kate Dubinski is a multi-media journalist with the London Free Press. She started there as a reporter almost 10 years ago. Since then, her beats have included education and digital trends but she has covered police, courts and politics. Kate was the first reporter to live-tweet from inside a criminal court, bringing the details of the notorious Bandidos biker gang murders to the public. She’s proud to work in a newsroom that’s been an early adopter of social media tools, using everything from Twitter and Facebook to Storify to get stories, keep in touch with PR professionals and broadcast the latest news to readers. The Free Press prides itself on maintaining an updated website with content that ranges from news articles to polls, videos, maps and audio podcasts that speak to as broad an audience as possible. She lives in London with her husband and two daughters.
Nathan Smith is the Brand Director and News Director at AM980. He’s a graduate of the Broadcast Journalism program at Fanshawe College, and an RTNDA award winner. Nathan lives in London with his wife Celine, and their two children…3 year old Cassius, and 1 year old Nyah.
Mike Donachie is a reporter/photographer for Metro London, where he takes on any and all stories that he can, the sillier the better, but specializes in city hall reporting. He has been with Metro since June 2013.
He spent 17 years working for newspapers made by Scottish publishing company D.C. Thomson, after completing a law degree with a specialism in international law.
His 10-year reporting career in Scotland saw him cover all types of news in Perthshire. He managed a regional daily newspaper’s coverage of the G8 Summit in 2005.
Mike also spent seven years as a copy editor, including as a manager of a night shift production staff. He was involved in the launch of a daily newspaper website and he has extensive web desk experience. He tweets too much and complains about Facebook a lot.
Mike lives in London with his wife Shazia and their two young children.
