Categories: News

Adina has been a dedicated IABC member for the past 11 years. Since joining, she has been a passionate and engaged member of IABC. From Adina’s perspective, “one of the main benefits of being an IABC Member is the possibility to meet and network with like-minded professionals from the local community and – why not? – the international community.” She has also been honoured with an IABC Award of Merit for Communication from IABC International in 2011 at the Leadership Institute in Nashville, which proves she truly has taken advantage of the resources and networking IABC has to offer.

Success through Social Media
Of course, IABC cannot take all of the credit for Adina’s talent and accomplishments. Being the communications coordinator at London and St. Thomas Association of REALTORS® (LSTAR), Adina is responsible for writing, designing and distributing all of their e-newsletters, while maintaining their website and a members-only site. She manages their Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr social media pages, all while being involved on various other projects.Through her hard work and initiative with LSTAR, the readership for the e-newsletters has almost doubled, the website traffic saw a significant increase and the Facebook page is highly engaged.

Adina emphasizes the importance of social media and digital technology, but does not downplay the importance of the face-to-face aspect of networking. She has been active in the community and participated in the London chapter of IABC for many years as a Social Media and Web Site Liaison, Virtuoso Awards Committee Member, Pinnacle Awards Judge and Director of Finance.

“Obviously, I am passionate about online communications and social media, but I also realize and cannot emphasize enough the importance of face-to-face communications.”

Passion for the Industry
When it comes to her position as communications coordinator, Adina explains that “I like the key role communications professionals play in setting the strategic direction of the organizations they represent. They are big influencers in the communities they live in, even if they are not always in the spotlight.”

Thinking ahead
Adina’s advice for future communicators and those just starting out is “to become a member of IABC and to use its resources. Also, if you have the occasion, volunteer for your local chapter. This will help you meet your peers, learn how they think and work.” She really appreciates the information featured in IABC’s newsletters and magazines, “you can keep yourself current with the latest best practices in the field, which gives you a competitive advantage in your career.”
