After having to reschedule it last month due to inclement weather, IABC London hosted IABC Hearts Students Reloaded – Connect and Learn about Video Best Practices on Tuesday, March 5t, at Western Continuing Studies. At the event aimed at bringing together local students and communication professionals, attendees enjoyed an evening of networking and information, while snacking on sandwiches and refreshments.
From 6 pm to 7:30 pm, guest speakers Scott May, Communications Consultant with Western University and Melissa Cheater, Digital Strategist with the Communications & Public Affairs Department of Western University shared video best practices and industry trends.
Through an engaging and interactive presentation, students and professionals learned about the importance of embracing available technologies by leveraging social media platform capabilities – such as the real-time sharing features of YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, in order to create short, captivating videos.
May and Cheater explored the 4E’s of video creation – Emotion, Engage, Educate and Entertain – while advising the audience to research and keep in mind current trends.
The presenters have also emphasized that businesses need to create spaces and workplace cultures that foster and welcome imagination, because, in its essence, video is all about authenticity and creativity.
