Communications Intern – Pathways Health Centre for Children, Sarnia

Pathways Health Centre for Children is a family-centred community agency serving children and youth with physical, developmental and communication needs and their families as well as adults for selected specialized services in Lambton County. The Centre provides a full range of family-centred rehabilitation and support services. Aquatic programs in our therapeutic pool are open to people of all ages and abilities in the community. There is also an integrated childcare service (C.A.C.H.É.) on site. The Centre relies on community support to exist and thus wishes to increase Sarnia and Lambton residents’ and local influencers’ awareness of and confidence in the highly skilled and accomplished team at Pathways, thereby driving financial support to meet the demand for service that is beyond what government funding can support.

Pathways has an opening for a volunteer summer intern position to develop key elements of the Communications and Community Engagement Plan under guidance of the Executive Director and working with the Senior Leadership Team and the Community Relations Committee of the Board. An honorarium will be offered (to be negotiated).

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop identified key elements of the Communications and Community Engagement Plan including:
– Community newsletter framework
– Social media plan including daily posting and monitoring
– Recommendations for website redesign
– Creation of messaging around specific events
– Creation of an internal speakers bureau made up of interested staff and Board members
– Enhance digital presentations for use in the community
– Develop messaging for various communications opportunities
– Recommendations for update of Centre brochure

Experience:
• Previous volunteer experience with a not-for-profit health or social service organization
• Experience writing for various audiences
Education:
• Enrolment in a public relations / communications degree program, final year student is preferred


Skills / Abilities:
• Articulate self-starter and team player
• Excellent time management
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to write for brand development and marketing purposes
• Display a professional demeanor at all times
