Meet Kathryn Arnot, one of IABC London’s newest members

Categories: News,Uncategorized

Where do you work? What is your role, including responsibilities and projects?
I’m the Manager of Marketing and Corporate Communications at London Hydro. I’m in charge of the marketing of new products and campaigns to external audiences and assist with existing internal communications.

How long have you been an IABC member?
I’m a brand new member since August.

In your opinion, what are the benefits of being an IABC member? What resources offered by IABC have you taken advantage of?
Connecting with people who are passionate about communicating is an amazing benefit to being a part of IABC. I’m looking forward to taking part in local events and exploring the IABC’s learning opportunities.

What area(s) of communications are you passionate about?
Marketing and advertising, internal communications and process communication.

Tell us about an important project or achievement from your career.
I launched some social media platforms for CHCH TV and Channel Zero in the beginning of my career. I’m very proud of the strides my team and I made at Canadian Tire to expand the Back To School platform and rebrand the Pet division.

Are you involved in volunteer work or other roles in the community?
I started my career by volunteering right out of school. I worked with the Canada Mathare Education Trust to build their social media presence, plan fundraising events as well as compile and edit their newsletter. It was invaluable experience.

Do you have any advice for students, future communicators or those starting out in this field?
Focus on what you want out of your career, not what you don’t want. Objectives can change quickly, learn how to shift gears just as fast.

What do you like the best about your profession?
It’s challenging and fast paced. I also enjoy working with a variety of teams and aligning perspectives towards one common goal.
