President of Digital Echidna Receives IABC London Outstanding Communicator Award

Categories: News

The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) London chapter presented the inaugural IABC London Outstanding Communicator Award to Andrew McClenaghan, President of Digital Echidna, at the Virtuoso Awards Celebration on June 1st, 2017.

The IABC London Outstanding Communicator Award recognizes an individual who demonstrates excellence with a strong commitment to communication. McClenaghan was honoured for his leadership at Digital Echidna, a leading web design and digital agency based in London, Ontario.

“It’s a great honour to be awarded with the inaugural IABC London Outstanding Communicator Award,” says McClenaghan. “Communication takes many forms. I believe one of the strongest forms of communications, the key to building a strong team, comes from internal work. That’s where I choose to focus.”

McClenaghan initiates successful communications programs that enhance his organization and advance the positive reputation of the communications profession. He fosters an atmosphere of open communication, information sharing, and inclusive partnership with staff and clients. An example is his implementation of “The State of the Echidna,” a quarterly address that provides all of his staff members with a revealing look at the company’s business operations.

McClenaghan has grown Digital Echidna from a small, one-man business operating out of his basement to its current status as a 65+ employee operation headquartered in downtown London.

The IABC London Outstanding Communicator Award was a new addition to this year’s Virtuoso Awards Celebration. The Virtuoso Awards is southwestern Ontario’s premiere professional awards program celebrating excellence in strategic business communications. Virtuoso is a local program aligned with IABC’s annual global and national award programs. By entering award submissions, communicators receive feedback based on international best practices and the chance to receive industry recognition.

Over 25 awards were presented at this year’s event. Business communicators from Lashbrook Marketing & Public Relations and the London Community Foundation each received “Best of the Best” awards for submitting the highest-scoring entries in their categories.

Lashbrook’s work on the Northern Lights Health Foundation Public Awareness Campaign secured them the prize for the communication management division. The London Community Foundation was awarded in the communications skills division for their Community Vitality Celebration event.

More than 100 communicators gathered at the Brookside Banquet Centre for this year’s Virtuoso Awards Celebration. Award winners were recognized in four divisions: research management, communication management, skills and training. These divisions represent the key competencies and strategy required to produce best practices in the field and drive business results.
